Brad Booth made a very poor read and put Phil Ivey on AK and thought if he bluffed all in Phil would fold. Phil Ivey made a terrible laydown. He's apparently "the best in the business" but with horrible reads like this, he does not deserve that title. Daniel Negreanu is a much better reader as seen in the WSOP amazing reads videos. And Andy Black as seen in the Aussie Millions. Brad Booth is lucky he made this play on a donk such as Phil Ivey and not someone with a poker brain.

easy call when you can see booths hole cards. remember its more profitable to make a bad fold than a bad call. if booth had a set or AA and ivey called, you would comment how did ivey call off 300k with kings on that flop!!! as i said its easy to make the right plays when you can see both players whole cards.

I disagree. I think Booth put Ivey on a big pair (not AK) and made the raise hoping for a laydown. He would not have made that raise against a player who cannot laydown a good hand.

Ivey cosa avrebbe dovuto fare di fronte a un all-in di quelle dimensioni? Giocando su Poker Club ho imparato anche quando è il momento di foldare. E a meno che tu non abbia il nut quella è una mano da foldare.

Genius play by Booth, and good lay-down by Ivey. Don't be level one thinkers--that is, only consider what your opponent might have--but also ask yourselves what your opponent thinks you have. Consider the action pre-flop: Williams makes a standard raise, Booth re-raises, Ivey raises again and Booth flat calls. Ivey would not re-raise with AK or any pair below J-J--and he knows that Booth knows that. Booth takes advantage of that fact post-flop. You really have to pick your spots in cash games.

Ivey wouldn't re-raise with AK or any pair below J's most of the time. Although your point is well taken. Still Ivey knew that Booth knew that he had a high pocket pair, and if he had really flopped a set or better wouldn't have put Phil all in on the flop. I think the reason Ivey didn't call is that he was too far behind to be wrong in that position. On another night it very well might not have worked. As you say you have to pick your spots.

I don't know of anybody online who has more than three hundred thousand in their account who isn't a "pro". The thing Ivey knew that Booth knew that he had a high pocket pair. The cards have so little to do with it at this level. Booth picked his situation and played the man. It worked probably in part because it's the kind of play that Ivey likes to make, and Ivey had already taken a couple of lumps. 300K for anybody is a lot to lose.
And as somebody ...( 1 week ago by Roshibear)
And as somebody pointed out Ivey has established a "calling station" image for himself and is considered a hard man to bluff. So if Booth really had flopped a set or just had A's He might very well have made that same all in bet that looked like he was trying to buy the pot to induce a call from Ivey.
