Difference between book and movie as others have noted is in the book - the game is baccarat.
This is from memory - I could be a little off.
Bond is dealt 2 queens face down (zero, nil, baccarat) - Le Chiffre draws a 3 face up. Bond of course asks for a card and is dealt a 9 face up(whisper of love, whisper of hate). With odds evenly divided Le Chiffre shrugs and asks for a card and draws a 5. With 8(3+5) he thinks he has won - but the two Q's(0) are still face down..! 9+0 > 3+5

Why shouldn't bond play 57s in a deepstacked game, A6o is a much worse hand for this particular game. Whats idiotic about this hand is that its checked to the river where everyone shoves in a small pot.

It seems odd to me that Bond would call pre flop with rags when he's out of position. One would probably expect the guy with pocket 8s to go all in preflop anyway. Really, it's the checking to the river that is the most egregious thing, not to mention that the each player has a monster hand.

That is such a bad ending! In other gambling/poker movies, they often hire a pokerpro to set ut the game; The hands, the betting osv. This is just pure imagination putten together by the filmcrew.
