Video Description: A law school student (Matt Damon) loses his tuition money and everything else he has saved in a high stakes poker game. Learning his lesson (he thinks), he vows to his girl friend (Mol Gretchen) to give up playing forever. That lasts until his best friend (Edward Norton), a notorious card shark, is released from prison and drags him back into the circuit to pay debts he has incurred to a Russian mobster (John Malkovich). John Turturro also appears as a career poker player and Martin Landau plays a law professor who understands his student's need to be something other than what is dictated to him.

if you turn over the stone-cold-nuts, you don´t have to say anything, at least not in a casino since you are acually not allowed to softplay them...for instance if you have a royal flush and you check behind on the river, this is not allowed!

i have watched this movie dozens of times, just to be able to watch this scene. I can't think of another actor besides Malkovich who could get away with acting so over the top like that. For him, it works, and it makes the scene, and the movie for that matter.

I don't know what planet you are from, but in a casino you always have to say what you do unless you throw your cards in the muck or put your money in the pot, but this isnt a casino. And there is no such rule that you aren't allowed to slowplay in a casino

Matt Damon still has to pay them back, regardless of how much money he walks away with. The fact that damon beat teddy kgb pisses grama off because grama doesn't get to kick his ass. Even after damon pays off his debt to grama he's still up about 30k, so that pisses grama off even more.

and grama didn't have any say in whether the game continued or not... technically damon still had a few hours until the deadline so it was damon's decision whether he walked away or put it all on the line, grama had no say in that.

The bet on the end is stupid by KGB because if he believed Mike is on a draw then he should have just checked on the end and takent the pot since that bet can only get him in trouble if he is wrong about his first judgment. Still a good movie but the more you watch the more poker logic goes out the window.
