Phil Ivey kind of embarassed himself on this show. Not in this hand, but in other hands he was just playing weird. He mucked a king high flush draw for no reason at all.
This was not a great play. Gutsy play, of course. But it's not a great play when you put 300K into a 50K pot. It's just a gross overbet, he risked 300k to win 35k. Congratulations.

psychology. booth made a bold move to call the re-raise preflop. then another idea was presented to booth because of this certain flop. now, Booth very well knows Ivey has two over cards... or possibly even Q's K's A's. Booth fires 300k, clearly overbetting the pot by 6x. Ivey instantly knows Booth's logic of this call. Ivey knows that Booth made the bet because he wants Ivey to know that I hit a set. The bet by Booth was very courageous in a cowardly sort of way. He didn't want Ivey to bet...

...before him because if Ivey invests more into the pot, then Booth would've had a hard time getting Ivey to fold. I know Ivey calculated his odds correctly. I think he heavily considered the possible set, of course, but also he could be the 2:1 favorite if Booth missed completely. 66/33 is very scary with two runners and a huge 6x investment of the pot. The equity wasn't there for Ivey. Ivey probably laid it down due to a bet that was too risky to be calling, plain and simple. Too much money.
