You insist that Mark is bored? I just guess it's his style. He doesn't have to be a clown on the scene. He won't dance or jump, beacuse he doesn'y have to do it. He is so good, that show is just useless.

i saw Christopher Cross in a small venue.
it was great
but his live vocals were not great
he and Mark are ***Guitar players***

i would guess that its kind of like singing a song that you really love... 4 thousand times. it gets hard to be fresh and animated EVERY single time. one's mood doesn't necessarily match the time of the performance, but, as they say, the show Must go on. so he steps up and plays well, without the benefit of being in the studio where he can overlay the vocals, perfectly.
he and CC help me better appreciate performers who can play and sing well, at the same time.
